Don't be your own bully!

I cook - alot. I am constantly seeking new recipes because something I hear often as dinner is being served is, "pasta.....again???". Someone that I look to for new and filling ideas is the Pioneer Woman. She tends to fix recipes that will undoubtedly fill my boys up - which is the goal. :)

As I was reading through her Potato Soup recipe ingredients, I saw this.....

"The Cast of Characters: Small Russet potatoes, carrots, celery, onions, milk, flour (not pictured, because I’m an airhead), heavy cream, salt, pepper (not pictured, for the same aforementioned reason), Cajun spice (ditto), parsley, and thin bacon. The sour cream is optional, as is the cheese, which is obscured by the potatoes.

Gosh, I’m thorough with these Cast of Characters set-ups, aren’t I?

Not."

I am sure that her self-demeaning and sarcastic comments towards herself are an attempt at levity and humor however, I see this constantly while working with clients. We can be SO mean to ourselves! Sometimes these thoughts slip through our mind without our full awareness which means that this type of self-talk is habitual. This isn't along the path to happiness! Life is short and time is the one thing that can't be recycled. One thing I say constantly in my practice is that the one thing you can always rely on is that for the rest of your life - you'll be there! So love yourself! Live it up! Laugh a lot! Work to become aware of those mean/demeaning thoughts and begin the work to replace them with more positive/gracious thoughts. Sometimes it helps to try to speak to yourself like a loved one would speak to you. Sometimes it helps to not be so focused on yourself and what you feel is going wrong. Move yourself away from that negativity and more towards gratitutde and love and you'll find that life will be lighter and more joyous.
